Come to the table
Updated: Feb 22, 2021
Contemplating on the Last Supper...Jesus knew his disciples would sometimes have terrible crosses to bear after he was physically gone. Leaving them behind with His body and His Blood, it would bring them “food” for their pilgrimages and while they bear their crosses. This food would sustain them, comfort them, restore their soul, nourish them and energize them. It could also give them strength when they were tired. It could give them direction if they were feeling lost. It can protect them from evil since His death would be resurrected. Today, we are his disciples and the same “food” provides to us all the same graces. He wanted ALL of His disciples to receive this food throughout ALL time! So if you are struggling with a cross you are bearing or just as you walk on your pilgrimage, accept the spiritual grace, the prayer, the protection, the healing, the direction, and the nourishment Jesus left for you. Take all Jesus has to offer! Let him guide you, feed you, strengthen you, heal you, comfort you and protect you. Come to the table...Jesus is waiting for you!
"Whoever eats my flesh and drinks my blood has eternal life, and I will raise him on the last day. For my flesh is true food, and my blood is true drink. Whoever eats my flesh and drinks my blood remains in me and I in him. Just as the living Father sent me and I have life because of the Father, so also the one who feeds on me will have life because of me" (John 6:54-57).
How do we know this literally means Jesus's REAL body and blood and not meant symbolically?
"Whoever, therefore, eats the bread or drinks the cup of the Lord in an unworthy manner will be guilty of the body and blood of the Lord. Let a man examine himself, and so eat of the bread and drink of the cup. For anyone who eats and drinks without discerning the body eats and drinks judgment upon himself."1 Corinthians 11:27-29
